A PLAQUE was unveiled at a much-loved pub in King’s Cross on Saturday, honouring its Asset of Community Value (ACV) status.

The council granted the King Charles I pub in Northdown Street this year in a move to protect it from developers.

In 2015, neighbours and pub-drinkers raised £70,000 between them to bid for the leasehold, and the group of 18 shareholders has been running it ever since, preserving it as a traditional pub.

Mayor of Islington Troy Gallagher, who unveiled the plaque, said: “I am a person that believes in community.

“Pubs are so much more than a place to socialise, they are levers of support for people who live on their own.”

After the unveiling guests saw live music performed by nearby resident Bob Stuckey, and Phil Grispo, along with the Phil Grispo orchestra.
